While others want it to remain neutral as a museum. Historically speaking would it not make sense to accommodate Muslims in Turkey? Russia accommodated Russians in their communist country by allowing them to practice Islam while they expanded the Russian Empire. I am not sure why Turkey feels the need to take away a mosque and keep it as a neutral museum. The thing that stands out most to me in this chapter is the world's economy. This is super ironic considering the worlds economy is in a bad place right now. Small businesses are losing everything they have worked for in a matter of months. Without capitalism small businesses wouldn't even have a chance to exist, and now that our rights have been taken away and we have lost the freedom of choice, small businesses have lost all decision making and are being left to fend for themselves. Today's economy reflects that of an economy which is recovering from a massive war. Similar to the great depression, except we are dealing with a pandemic, not a war. Just how international trade dropped during the great depression, the same thing is happening today because of the genius in office who also cut the resources needed to battle this pandemic.  In my opinion, we need to do what we have to do to survive during this time. Chapter 22's main theme to me seems like freedom. We are still fighting for freedom to this very day on multiple levels. Racial inequality is the extremely obvious, huge battle of today's world. Even here in America, we are fighting for freedoms such as not using certain platforms. As someone who doesn't use social media, I was pretty much forced to use social media for this course and its video presentations. So the freedom battles are big and small I guess.  As someone who works in medicine, I have seen patients forced into using technology for video visits due to the pandemic. We experienced a massive amount of issues with essentially forcing patients to download an app to do video visits with their provider. Experiments of politics happened when communism took over countries like China and Cuba, while today we experiment politically by allowing communist or marxists to take over movements with political agendas. Identify the major differences between the Russian and Chinese revolutions. The biggest difference between the Russian and Chinese revolutions is the time disparity. Russia's revolution took place in about a year while China's was a long battle which concluded 30 years after Russia's had finished. These thirty years really took a toll on the country and its people because war was taking place and we know that war is never good, except for those who make fortunes of money off it. Another major difference was that Russia's switch to Marxism/Socialism/Communism was actually years in the making. Per the textbook "intellectuals" had talks of this way of life for quite sometime before the revolution. One may wonder if that helped the Revolution to be completed in just a year versus China's multi-decade battle. In what ways was the Great Depression a global phenomenon? The Great Depression indeed had massive ripple effects around the world, even though those ripple effects stemmed from the United States, a country untouched in war. The United States had an economic boom when the need for war materials and resources became relevant, which brought on more jobs for the time being as well. So basically the government kind of stimulated this economic boom right? Since the citizens of America or any other country don't make the decision to go to war. Anyways once the post war era came around, goods were being made for people who could no longer afford them or goods were being made that were simply being wasted because of it being the post war era. This is all combined with less jobs cause the Great Depression and collapse of the economy. The Pandemic of 2020 will for sure go down in history, but what for? I think we are still at a point that we can get this thing under control and contained, but it is going to take close to perfect execution from those in power to do so. In short, I guess I actually don't have much faith in those in power getting this under control. Trump eliminated Obama Administration programs built for this exact pandemic! That alone set us back as soon as COVID-19 became relevant.  My personal experience during this pandemic has been quite interesting. I have gone from a train commuter to my job as an x-ray technologist, to probably never wanting to take the train again and commuting to work in my car daily. In terms of work, my job duties changed quite drastically during the months of April and May. I was pulled from my normal job to help at our COVID Respiratory Clinic here in Palo Alto. What a year 2020 has been! As we approach 4th of July weekend, I wouldn't have ever thought a year like this would take place in my lifetime. That being said, learning about how the world come to be to this very day, has been completely amazing. To learn about the Sea Roads, and to think of how cargo ships today, pretty much do the same thing of transporting traded or sold goods, its astonishing. The Sea Roads not only connected the world, but they may have saved the world in a way. Regions with different climates would not have had access to certain resources without those Sea and Silk Roads. Learning how Venice, Italy became a hub for trade, it resembled the port cities of the United States today such as San Francisco, Portland, Oregon and Portland, Maine. The Sea Roads connected Asia with Europe and Africa which was a groundbreaking development.
